The Zimbabwe Golf Association (ZGA) has released its 2022 calendar of events, which has a number of tournaments, beginning with the traditional season opener, the Dugmore and Fellowship set for Bulawayo Golf Club.
The Dugmore tournament will be held from January 22-23, headlining the official start of the 2022 golf year that has a total of 25 local, regional and international tournaments.
After the season opener, golfers will participate in the South African stroke play, which tees off on January 28 and ends on March 4. The Matabeleland Amateur championship is slated for the end of March at a venue still to be confirmed and immediately after that, the Zimbabwe Open gets underway in Harare from April 6-10.
In the same month, Luanda, Angola, plays host to the Region 5 championships from April 26 to May 1. The first international tournament, the famous Eisenhower finals, will be staged in France from August 31 to September 3.
“Zimbabwe did not make it into the automatic qualifying top 36 from the last tournament. Names of Zimbabwe amateur golfers on the World Amateur Golf Ranking list top five will be selected and submitted to the International Golf Federation to compete for a possible slot. Our ranked players will be matched against other countries in order to see if they can get a slot or not in order to play in France,” said the ZGA in a statement.
The All-Africa Championships will be held in Egypt in October.
ZGA said participation will be decided based on Order of Merit with the cut off tournament being the Bata Power event in August.
“Harare Amateur set for April 16-17 is the cut off event for the Zone Six tournament and top players will be determined by Order of Merit,” read the ZGA statement.
