THE Zimbabwe Golf Association (ZGA) has expressed gratitude to Tongaat Hulett for their continued support of the sport, while hosting the second biggest tournament in the country after the Zimbabwe Open.
This comes after Tongaat Hulett poured in US$60 000 for the country’s second biggest Pro-Am golf tournament, the Lowveld Pro-Am.
The championship teed off on Friday at Hippo Valley and Triangle Golf Clubs
Zimbabwe Golf Association president ,Martin Chikwana, described Tongaat Hulett as their all weather friend, adding that having the championship hosted in the Lowveld shows that there are a lot of courses in the country and will also serve as an inspiration to many.
The event has also attracted players from outside the country.
“We are grateful to Tongaat Hulett, it’s something they have always been doing. Their generous contribution will fuel a major professional and amateur golf event, one that has garnered local and international attention.
On behalf of the entire association, I express our deepest gratitude to Tongaat Hulett; your unwavering support strengthens our commitment to inclusivity, development and showcasing the brilliance of Zimbabwean golf on the international stage.
“Playing in the Lowveld goes on to show that we have so many golf courses in the country. It will also give the opportunity to realise that there is talent outside our capital cities.
As the association, we are glad that the event is in the Lowveld, it will inspire the youth in that area and hopefully we can get many people playing golf,” said Chikwana.
In his speech, Chikwana added that the tournament will transcend the boundaries of sport, and showcase the country’s beauty to the visiting international players.
The celebrated tournament will go a long way in contributing to sports tourism. At least 60 players took to the greens.
“It’s a testament to the captivating beauty of Zimbabwe’s golf courses and a celebration of our nation’s rich tourism potential.
With 60 players taking the green, including international participants, regional representatives and a significant contingent of talented Zimbabweans – including senior players and most importantly, six exceptional ladies – this event promises to be truly remarkable,” he said.
The ongoing tournament presents a unique opportunity for players to showcase their skills, for golf enthusiasts to witness the captivating world of golf and also as a time to celebrate the symbiotic relationship between ZGA and Tongaat Hulett.
The partnership between ZGA and Tongaat Hulett has also been tipped to expand beyond the green, as it exemplifies the power of collaboration between the corporate world and sporting organisations.
