BUSINESS delegates will take a break from the exhibition floors, picking up their clubs to participate at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) Charity Golf tournament set for today.
Bulawayo Golf Club will play host to this year’s edition. The ZITF started on April 25 and will end on April 29 under the theme, “Transformative innovation, global competiveness”.
Proceeds from the golf tournament that is expected to draw captains of industry as well as foreign exhibitors will be donated to charity.
Stella Nkomo, the ZITF deputy chief executive officer said registration for the golf tournament whose format is individual stableford has been going on well and will close on the competition day.
“Presently, we have 100 people who have registered for the ZITF Charity Golf event and we’re on course to achieving our target of 140 participants. Registration is open till the day of the tournament; 27 April 2023 and registration fee is pegged at US$80 per participant.
“Kindly note that all proceeds will go towards charity, with beneficiaries to be advised,” Nkomo said.
Beneficiaries of the past ZITF Charity Golf competitions include Khayelihle Children’s Home, Ekuphumuleni Geriatrics Home, Tsholotsho Flood Victims, Esandleni Sothando (a local girls initiative) and Ingutsheni Central Hospital.
Bulawayo Island Hospice, a non-governmental, non-profit making, welfare institution providing professional palliative and end-of-life care to the terminally ill also benefited from proceeds raised from the ZITF Charity Golf tournament.
Old Mutual has retained the ZITF Charity Golf title sponsor for the fifth year.
The competition has also seen new partners who include one of the largest producers of alcoholic beverages, primarily distilled spirits and wines Afdis, security firm Fawcetts, and Nyaradzo Funeral Assurance coming on board.
The international trade showcase, which is in its 63rd edition has attracted 533 exhibitors, which include foreign countries such as Angola, Belarus, China, Kenya, Japan, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Iran, South Africa, Tanzania, UK, USA, Botswana and the United Arab Emirates.
The golf tournament will afford participants an opportunity to conduct business in a relaxed atmosphere.
