adminMakwara. The players took part in the Zimbabwe Olympic Committee Golf Day yesterday as part of their preparations. Zimbabwe will compete in the annual event at Centurion Country Club in Pretoria, South Africa, this coming week.
Last year Zimbabwe finished third in Botswana but expects an improved show this time. Chingono, who is the leading player, believes they have a decent team that can do well.
“I believe we have a good team that can compete with anyone. We are looking forward to the event and, hopefully, do better than last year,” Chingono said.
The team is now under the guidance of former national team player, Rhoda Muridzo, and has young players who have come through the ZLGU development programme.
Meanwhile, Zimbabwe golfers, Ignatius Mketekete and Micky Hough, had decent outings in the two rounds of the Big Easy Tour at Centurion Country Club, Pretoria in South Africa.
The duo managed to finish tied in 16th place after carding four-under-par rounds of 67, 73 and 71, 69 respectively. The Big Easy Tour is used as a stepping stone by most professional players.
