On a routine check of the water situation in the suburb, a Herald news crew stumbled upon groups of women fetching water at different points.
The women complained over water shortages from council supplies.
“We have not had water for many years. It is only now through Mr Mudambo that we can have water on a daily basis,” said Ms Immaculate Pasi.
Mr Choppy Chipiro who was pushing a wheelbarrow full of buckets said he was happy because of the “Good Samaritan”.
Mr Mudambo was soon to pass by one of the boreholes on his routine inspection of the water points.
He said he decided to invest in the community project because he was touched by the plight of women and children who had to walk long distances to get water.
“I drilled the boreholes to help the community.
“I realised the council and the local councillor were failing to assist the people. I used close to US$8 000 in this project,” he said.
He plans to drill more boreholes for the area.
Mr Mudambo is a member of the Zanu-PF Borrowdale 2 district where he is the secretary for transport and welfare.
Meanwhile, Harare has drawn plans to drill an additional 71 boreholes in low and high-density suburbs.
Harare Water director Eng Christopher Zvobgo said the city has over 200 boreholes of which 42 need rehabilitation.
He said the additional 71 boreholes would augment water supplies.
The city also has plans to drill boreholes in Hatcliffe.
