IT was a rare good weekend for Zimbabwean soccer players plying their trade in Europe as their teams did well. Zimbabwe’s best export so far, former AmaZulu hardman Costa Nhamoinesu, who plays in the top Czech Republic league for Sparta Praha, had a hard fought 3-2 away win over Jablonec to finish the first half of the season five points clear.
Champions League football looks imminent for Nhamoinesu who was yellow carded in the 52nd. He however continues to enjoy massive game time with 17 starts so far.
In the Belgian Jupiler League where there are two Zimbabweans playing there, former Caps United forward Nyasha Mushekwi was a second half substitute for Yohan Brouckaert as his side, KV Oostende cruised to a 2-0 home win over Cercle Brugge.
Mushekwi’s countryman, former Highlanders midfielder Vusa Nyoni, who plays for struggling Mons, was introduced in he 84th minute for goalscorer, Tim Matthys as Mons picked up a vital point following last week’s win, their only victory so far this season. Mons though remain firmly rooted at the bottom of the log standings.
Former Motor Action striker, Quincy Antipas’ side Brondby, in Denmark drew 1-1 with Sonderjyske who are at the bottom of the standings.
Mike Temwanjira, who plays for Vaslui in Romania, was in action last night.
