GABORONE United defender Tatenda Gora is over the moon after his club’s triumphant 2024/25 Botswana Premier League campaign.

Gora, who was inpiratiional in the title victory, put standout performances that have seen him nominated for Defender of the Season.

The 27-year-old center-back contributed five crucial goals and helped the club keep an impressive 13 clean sheets.

“I’m overwhelmed with gratitude as I reflect on this incredible journey. A lot of people from my family, teammates, friends and everyone close to me have been supporting,” Gora said.

“Despite setbacks and possible injuries, God’s guidance kept me going. This nomination is more than just an award, it’s proof that patience and hard work pay off.”

His ability to contribute defensively while posing a threat on set pieces made him indispensable in Gaborone United’s title run.

“Our championship win was a team effort, built on unity, perseverance, and faith,” Gora said.

“To anyone chasing their dreams, keep believing. Divine guidance can take you further than you ever imagined.”

With the Defender of the Season award still pending, Gora’s focus remains on celebrating the title while preparing for next season.

“We still have a game to play, we have won the title but it’s not yet over. We still have to battle it out and win our last game.

“I would want to get another clean sheet before closing the season and focus on next season.”

Gora said it’s every player’s dream to represent his country and wouldn’t think twice if given a chance.

“It’s a dream, everyone wants to play for the national team. Sometimes we believe you have to wait for your chance, if it comes then it’s game on.

“But usually back home, it’s difficult to be recognised when you are playing here. One day the perception will change and the quality will up.”
