MARCUS RASHFORD has been left in limbo after Barcelona agreed a £70million deal with Newcastle to sign Anthony Gordon.
England winger Gordon had also been a target for Bayern Munich and Arsenal this summer, while Liverpool held a historic interest in the former Everton man.But the Spanish champions are just days away from completing a deal for Gordon, who will undergo a medical this week.The Englishman, 25, is set to complete a five-year deal with Barca before jetting to America with England’s World Cup squad.
Newcastle had initially valued Gordon at more than £80million, though a £70million fee with Barcelona has now been negotiated.
There had been some initial concerns over whether the Spanish champions would be able to afford any deal for Gordon.
The Three Lions wideman’s impending move to Spain could be a blow to international team-mate Rashford. Man Utd loanee Rashford, 28, scored 14 goals and added 14 assists in 49 appearances for Hansi Flick’s side last season.
Rashford’s loan deal from Manchester United included a £26m option to buy, however the Spanish champions have been attempting to negotiate that figure down.Any permanent deal now seems very unlikely.Rashford wants to stay at the Catalan giants,.But they are only open to bringing Rashford back if another loan deal can be agreed with Michael Carrick’s United.
The United academy graduate is not part of Michael Carrick’s plans at Old Trafford next season.His representatives have already met with Barca sporting director Deco to discuss his future.
Speaking after sealing the LaLiga title with Hansi Flick‘s side, the England international confirmed his dream was to stay with the club.
He said: “I am not a magician, but if I was, I would stay. We will see.
“I came here to win. I want to win as many things as I can. This is one more to add to this.
“This is a wonderful team, they’re going to win so much in the future. To be a part of that would be special. I always had an admiration for Barcelona, they were my second team so it is a dream to come here and win.” But Gordon now seems to be the man boss Flick wants.Gordon has shown versatility for Newcastle this season, playing on both flanks as well as up front.
He will face stiff competition from the likes of Lamine Yamal and Raphinha on the flanks at the Camp Nou.— Sun.
