UNITED KINGDOM-based entrepreneur and football administrator Marshall Gore has thrown his name into the ring for the ZIFA presidency.
Gore, who has coordinated football activities in the Diaspora for more than a decade through his organisations such as Team Zimbabwe, Bhora Africa and African Football Association, yesterday took to social media to declare his interest in the hot seat.
He has since launched his campaign on social media, despite the elections still more than nine months away, at least.
Gore said he wants to bring a professional touch to the way the game is run.
“I just want to say to you help us to support our campaign for the ZIFA presidency,” he said in a video posted on social media yesterday.
“This is a campaign that is genuine. This is a campaign that is driven by sincerity, this is a campaign that is driven by the love for the game and not the love for money.
“This is a campaign of service leadership. This is a campaign for the grassroots football development. This is a campaign to change the plight of our football.”
Gore believes domestic football administration needs a reboot after years of being run down by inept administration.
He also revealed plans for grassroots development, women’s football and improved welfare for current and retired footballers.
“As you have seen in the last few years, our football has not been running perfectly. I want to assure you that when I come into office I will make sure that the Premier Soccer League is supported to be professional.
“When I come into office, I will ensure also that our women’s football league is supported and given the necessary resources for it to compete at continental level.
“I will ensure that the welfare of our players is improved. Currently we need to introduce medical insurance for our players.
“We need to ensure that the clubs that employ these players ensure also that these players have a pension that they can rely on when their careers are cut short by injury or when football comes to an end. We are all aware that football is a very short career,” said Gore.
