“Kana Zvamubata” and “Who is this Man?” which took the nation by storm a few years ago.
On the new album simply titled “Kunyarara”, Gospel Power has managed to maintain the beat from its popular songs, with tunes and lyrics so irresistibly good that they make you want to dance, sing and praise.
Despite the new album being a social commentary, what makes it more exciting is that God remains the central theme across all the 10 songs.
Fronted by Pastor Lawrence Gunda, the four-member group takes its fans down memory lane with its original beat spiced with deep vocals that are clear and powerful.
Pastor Gunda said the group is inspired by Prophet Emmanuel Makandiwa whom they met at How Mine near Bulawayo in 2005.
“The group started at How Mine in 2004 and we were only singing in church,” he said.
“We recorded our first album the same year titled ‘Akubhekumsa’ which had the hit song ‘Who is This Man’.
“We then met Prophet Makandiwa when he came as a pastor at How Mine and he sponsored us to record our second album ‘Kana Zvamubata’ in 2005 which had the songs ‘Kana Zvamubata’, ‘Tafura’ and ‘Anochengeta’.”
Gospel Power went on to record a DVD of “Kana Zvamubata” in 2010 and had another album titled “Achapindura” the same year.
The new album, set to be launched before a full house, opens with the song “Mafaro” which bemoans how some people get themselves into trouble because of the pursuit of joy.
The high tempo “Kunyarara” warns people that God has been quite despite the number of times they have sinned, yet he is aware of their deeds.
On “Sodom neGomorrah”, the group asks people to desist from sinning and turn to God.
The song “Divine Solutions”, which is set to become popular with many, makes it clear that solutions from God are on the way.
Other songs on the album are Calvary, “Chishuwo”, “Ndichava Wandichava”, “Mene Mene”, “Vulela Amasango” and “Days of My Life”.
Gospel Power is made up of Pastor Gunda, Lovemore Gunda, Godfrey Mazinyana and Kenneth Suwaleyi.
