The Second Republic continues to bridge the digital gap and rural-urban divide through the handover of Starlink kits to schools across the country.
Speaking this morning at Chinhoyi Technical High School, where 31 schools from Mashonaland West province received the kits, acting chief director of Provincial Education Services in the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, Mr Edson Chauke, said the handover was coming at an opportune time when President Mnangagwa was calling for no learner or school to be left behind in relation to digital connectivity.
“The digital divide was a wall that stood between our schools. These 31 Starlink kits will help tear the wall apart,” he said.
The kits were handed over by Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister, Marian Chombo, who challenged the learners to be wary of what they post online.
“While the Government is going the extra mile in ensuring that you benefit from the Starlink kits, use the internet wisely and know that whatever you post, it remains there for good,” she said.
Minister Chombo also took time to warn the learners against drug and substance abuse, adding that the country would only develop if the learners are focused.
On behalf of the learners, Child President Lionel Mazariri, said that connectivity helps children in remote areas to be at par with those in developed urban centres.
The Ministry of ICT, Postal and Courier Services, late last year, donated over 8000 Starlink kits to the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education.
