National Housing and Social Amenities Minister, Zhemu Soda, last week officially launched the Tour of Zvishavane FBC Eastlea and Four Miles Housing in Zvishavane, Midlands Province. The initiative forms part of the ongoing concerted efforts to tackle the country’s persistent housing challenges.
During the launch event, Minister Soda emphatically reaffirmed the Government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring that every citizen has access to housing that is both decent and affordable.
The two significant developments, integral to the wider national housing development programme, are projected to yield hundreds of new residential units.
This substantial output is expected to make a considerable contribution towards alleviating Zimbabwe’s significant housing backlog.
“The Government is committed to addressing the housing challenge that many of our citizens face. Through projects like the FBC Eastlea and Four Miles developments, we are taking a major step towards improving living conditions for Zimbabweans, especially in urban areas where demand for housing is rising rapidly,” said Minister Soda.
The FBC Eastlea project is set to deliver modern housing units equipped with essential services such as electricity, water and proper sanitation.
Likewise, the Four Miles project will see the construction of affordable homes tailored to meet the needs of low and middle-income families.
The projects are being implemented in collaboration with various stakeholders, including private developers and local authorities, with funding sourced from both public and private sectors.
In addition to residential units, the developments will include key community amenities such as schools, clinics and recreational facilities.
Minister Soda’s visit to the sites also highlighted the Government’s vision for future housing developments in other parts of the country.
He encouraged local communities to play an active role in the planning and execution of such initiatives, noting that inclusive participation would result in more sustainable and well-planned urban development.
The Tour of Zvishavane housing project comes at a time when Zimbabwe is intensifying efforts to meet the rising demand for residential properties in major urban centres.
With the Government placing a strong emphasis on sustainable urban growth, the Second Republic’s housing drive is regarded as a critical component in addressing the shelter needs of a growing population.
Residents of Zvishavane have expressed optimism about the new developments, stating that the projects will lead to substantial improvements in both local economic activity and living standards.
Minister Soda also took the opportunity to engage with local authorities, property developers and community representatives to discuss strategies for ensuring the success and long-term sustainability of the housing projects.
