The 20th bus carrying Zimbabweans returning from South Africa arrived at the United Congregational Church of Southern Africa (UCCSA) transit centre in Njube, Bulawayo, on Wednesday as the Government’s repatriation exercise continues.
The latest group joins hundreds of other returnees who have passed through the transit facility following reports of xenophobic attacks and intimidation targeting foreign nationals in parts of South Africa.
Officials at the transit centre said another bus carrying returnees was expected later on Wednesday evening, indicating that the repatriation programme remains active as more Zimbabweans opt to return home.
Upon arrival, the returnees receive temporary accommodation, meals, medical screening and counselling before being transported to their respective home areas.
The Government, working with humanitarian partners, says the repatriation exercise is aimed at ensuring the safe and dignified return of Zimbabwean nationals while facilitating their reintegration into communities across the country.
Authorities have urged Zimbabweans affected by the situation in South Africa to make use of official channels for assistance and voluntary repatriation.
