THE Government is committed to upgrade and face-lift all memorial shrines in foreign countries where thousands of liberation war fighters are buried.
This was said by Energy and Power Development Minister, Honourable July Moyo during the tour of Chimoio National Shrine in Mozambique last Friday. The tour was organised for Rural Electricification Agency board members and senior executives by the Chitepo School of Ideology to appreciate the supreme sacrifices made by the gallant sons and daughters of the soil who perished while fighting for the independence of the country.
” We applaud President Emmerson Mnangagwa and the Government for the work that is taking place on shrines in foreign countries. Recently Vice Predisdent Kembo Mohadi was send by the President in all the countries that were housing liberation war fighters to asses the state of all the camps. Through the Ministry of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage, and the the Department of Museums and National Monuments of Zimbabwe, it is intended that where our people are lying something must be done to spruce up the areas. The ministry’s target is to electrify all schools and clinics across the country. To get the inspiration of what we are doing, it was important that we add in Chitepo School of Ideology to come and give us the background of why we are doing this rural development and transformation. We have come here to get the inspiration and struggle history of our people to gain independence. That independence can only be fulfilled by economic development which is underpined by availability of energy, ” said Honourable Moyo.

Acting REA board chairperson, Mrs Cecilia Chitiyo said the tour of Chimoio has been an eye opener for the board and senior executives and it has motivated them to work hard pushing for the development of the country which the heroes died for.

.”We have had an opportunity to visit the Chimoio Shrine and learn about the people who sacrifice for their country. As we execute our duty in electrifying rural areas we are serving the parents of some comrades lying here. So we should take that in mind as we do this transformation work for our country. We have a debt to pay, this tour has taught us to be patriotic. The least we can do is to execute our duties diligently,” said Mrs Chitiyo.
