GOVERNMENT yesterday consoled the Indian government and its citizens following the tragic Air India plane crash which occurred in Ahmedabad, India, last week, resulting in the death of 270 people.

Yesterday, Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister Professor Murwira, representing President Mnangagwa and the Zimbabwean Government, signed the Book of Condolence for the plane crash victims at the Indian Embassy in Harare.

“We learnt with sorrow of the aviation accident that happened in Ahmedabad, India, on June 12, 2025, where a passenger plane, Air India, with 242 people on board, had an accident and only one survivor, but we also learnt that with people on the ground, the death toll is now 270.

“So, on behalf of His Excellency the President and the people of Zimbabwe, we have been signing this Book of Condolence because we and India are very close, have excellent relations and we mourn together with the Republic of India on this tragic loss. So, we hope our sympathies will give them strength and fortitude to continue,” Prof Murwira said.

Indian Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Bramha Kumar, thanked President Mnangagwa and the Zimbabwean people for showing solidarity with his motherland.

“It has been a very encouraging response from Zimbabwe and of course it was a very tragic incident that happened in India and it is one the most fatal air crashes so far.

“So, it is a very sad incident, but I have these condolence messages from the top offices in the Government of Zimbabwe, which came on the very same day from His Excellency the President, and today’s visit of Honourable Foreign Affairs Minister,” he said.
