The Ministry of Health and Child Care has finally contained a malaria outbreak in Karoi that killed seven people. The ministry said a remarkable reduction of cases from 75 to 25 daily had been recorded.
This comes after the ministry intervened to avert a potentially disastrous situation in the town by providing mosquito nets and spraying a section of the area affected in Chiedza township.
In an interview yesterday, Mashonaland West provincial medical director, Dr Wancelous Nyamayaro, said the province was impressed.
“I am happy to say that we have only recorded seven deaths since the outbreak and for the past three weeks, there are no deaths recorded.
“The cases are also dropping from 75 cases to 25 cases reported per day,” said Dr Nyamayaro.
He said they had set up a mobile clinic to ease the situation as many panic-stricken residents had overwhelmed a local clinic due to high demand.
“From the report I gave before, we have set up a camp in the area, a mobile clinic. We hope with all the efforts we are doing we will be able to control the situation.”
