GOVERNMENT has warned unscrupulous individuals who continue to illegally allocate residential stands on State land anticipating that they will be regularised.
National Housing and Social Amenities Minister, Daniel Garwe, issued the warning during the commissioning of the Southview Park Water Works Project and the belated commemoration of the World Habitat Day.
Minister Garwe said:
“There are unscrupulous individuals who would like to manipulate the Government’s generosity to regularise as they continue to illegally allocate stands on unserviced land.
“Please be warned that your days are numbered. We have set a yardstick where all developments that emerged post 2020 will not be regularised.
“People should not illegally invade open spaces anticipating that the Government will regularise them,” he said.
Minister Garwe said the Government’s drive is to make sure that shelter is affordable to all.
He encouraged people to visit Government or Council offices if they have doubts before buying a stand or a house. “We must, however, be wary of unscrupulous people who are defrauding people of their hard- earned money through illegal sale of stands and double allocation,” Minister Garwe said. “The Government is working on the development of smart cities where we seek to move with time and adopt strategies that conform with dictates of the digitalised world and globalisation,” he added.
