HARD-WORKING sungura artist, Lucky Kumene, says he will not throw in the towel until he strikes gold.
The 39-year-old reckons Lady Luck is about to locate him as he unveils his fifth album titled Shot Reipapo tomorrow at Eastpoint (formerly Jazz 105) in the capital.
An early Christmas present, according to the singer, the album has no fillers but is laden with well-knit and danceable songs.
It carries six songs – Chiuno Chego, Sorry Yonini, Usadherere Kumene, Chiuya Chiuya, John Adyiwa and the title track Shot Reipapo.
In an interview, The Power Express frontman said he was living his dream, although he still yearns for top honours.
“I have always loved music and I have made it clear that two late music legends – Leonard Dembo and Tongai Moyo – remain my role models.
“A lot of things we are doing at the moment have been done before by these legends and we are simply amplifying what they did and taking over from where they left.
“I am also happy that my fans have noted that I am also evolving with the passing of each day,” said the Power Express leader.
Kumene, who doubles as an engineer, said it was hard to resist the musical calling. “To be honest, I had a good job in the mining sector in Ngezi but this calling was just irresistible to say the least.
“It’s like I was running away from myself but I had to pursue my dream and do the right thing, which is the musical business.
“I am grateful that I have since made a name for myself and fans are now beginning to appreciate me and my brand,” he added.
To ensure that he gives fans variety, Kumene has invited fellow artists to support him at the launch.
These are Gift Amuli, Batsirai Chinyanga, Simon Mutambi, Delight Zisengwe, Sam Dondo, Vengai Moyo, Sir Natto, Mathew Perego, Willo and The Bullets, among others.
Besides this album, he boasts of four others – Porongi, released in 2015, Vape Moyo (2016), Ngoda YaMwari (2018) and Kavhiri Kendege, released in 2020.
