Government is set to refurbish hospitals and clinics across the country as it seeks to improve the quality of health service delivery, Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko has said.
In a speech read on his behalf by the principal director in his office Dr Petros Ndlovu at the launch of Zim Afro Medical and Health Fair in Harare on Thursday, VP Mphoko said Government had embarked on a programme to reduce the morbidity and mortality rate by strengthening primary health care.
“It is the obligation of any responsible Government to create a healthy and secure environment for its people,” he said. “Government values and seeks partnerships with the private sector in implementing its social and economic developmental goals within the national blue print Zim-Asset.”
VP Mphoko said the Zim Afro Medical and Health Fair’s outcome will have a positive impact on the Government’s achievement of its health and welfare goals.
He commended health advisor to the President and Cabinet Dr Timothy Stamps for establishing partnership between Government health providers and private providers of health services, which has seen the fair being held for the past five years.
“I have also been impressed by the exhibition of herbal medicines,” said VP Mphoko. “I challenge our pharmacists and other scientists and technologists to work with our traditional healers to develop the indigenous herbs that have medicinal value.”
Speaking at the same occasion, Dr Stamps said all sectors depended on each other so there was need to unite and work together to be successful and come up with positive results.
