GOVERNMENT has begun regularising the Diamond Park housing project at Melfort Farm in Goromonzi, as efforts to standardise illegal settlements in urban centres across the country commence.
The project, spearheaded by youths in collaboration with Vitadge Property and East Wind, is set to benefit at least 5000 people including war veterans, civil servants and the disabled.
Through the Ministry of National Housing and Social Amenities, Government has agreed to the regularisation of Diamond Park Phases A, B and C stands.
Construction has resumed under phase A and part of phase B while issuance of phase C stands has been temporarily put on hold.
Speaking at a residents meeting yesterday, project director Cde Rodgers Pote, who is also ZANU PF Mashonaland East youth league provincial executive member, commended Government for walking the talk in its efforts towards regularising a project that complements Vision 2030.
“Our wish is that every Zimbabwean should have a decent roof over their head regardless of how much they earn, which explains our interests in civil servants, the disabled and other groups. We thank Government through National Housing and Social Amenities Minister Daniel Garwe. Our project endorsement came after his presentation at the last Cabinet meeting. It goes a long way in making this project a success and also shows that we are in the right direction.”
The youth friendly project is partly being financed by the National Social Security Authority (NSSA) through NMB bank. Construction of roads and installation of sewer reticulation systems to ensure that the gated community is up to the expected standard, has begun.
