Grammy concert lights up Channel O Christmas fare

Christ, may peace be upon Him.
The Lord Jesus has been so kind and this year it was such a blessing for me. I say this because we reached out to as many readers as possible giving weekly doses of the small screen magic.
During my break I was in London, where I attended the Miss World pageant and then later the World Travel Market, courtesy of the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority.

Once again thanks to chief Karikoga Kaseke, Givemore Chidzidzi and the entire ZTA team for making the trip a reality.
For me it was an eye-opener attending both world events. I had a chance to meet the organiser of Miss World, Julia Morley, as well as tourism leaders at the WTM.
Outside the two events I also had a wonderful time in London thanks to Donald Charumbira for being such a good host. We partied like there was no tomorrow.

Quite honestly, I wasn’t a stranger to BBC television because it’s almost the same with what we watch here on DStv save for the Sky television which most of Londoners watch.
My only hope is that 2012 will be another blessed year for everyone and that television remains as entertaining as ever.
Since the year is now drawing towards the end I picked up something which I hope will lighten up the Christmas holiday and its exclusive on this column.

Channel O is proudly broadcasting The Grammy Nominations Concert on Christmas Day, Sunday 25 December at 20:00, as a gift to its loyal viewers throughout 2011.
Held to announce nominees in the 54th Annual Grammy Awards, the concert took place at the Nokia Theatre LA and blends Grammy-worth performances with the official announcement of the songs, albums and artists that are in the running for “Music’s Biggest Night”.

Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Lupe Fiasco, Ludacris, Sugarland and the Band Perry were among the performers at a show hosted by LL Cool J.
One the highlights came when Usher joined Valerie Simpson of the hit making duo Ashford & Simpson and Mike Stoller of the songwriting team Leiber & Stoller in a moving tribute to songwriters.

Another was a tribute to “The Message” by Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five, which was inducted into the 2012 class of the Grammy Hall of Fame. According to Grammy.com, “the song was brought to thumping life onstage by Flash himself manning the turntables in grand fashion, and raps supplied by Common, original Furious Five members Melle Mel and Scorpio, and Grammy winner Lupe Fiasco. LL Cool J couldn’t resist the lure of the “message” and hopped up to deliver the hip-hop classic’s final lines.”

In a report on Grammy.com, Gaga was described as looking “absolutely monster-esque in a black bikini and overcoat, with heavy black make-up that had her looking like a sexed-up zombie”.
The live performances and announcements of nominees interspersed with highlights from past Grammy shows, including greats such as Mick Jagger and Aretha Franklin, Pink’s breathtaking aerial performance of

“Glitter In The Air”, and Gwyneth Paltrow’s duet with Cee Lo Green on “Forget You”.
The 54th Annual Grammy Awards take place on Sunday, February 12 2012 and will be broadcast LIVE on Channel O from 3:00am on Monday February 13 2012.
