POLICE in Mashonaland East Province have arrested a 72-year-old man from Sadza, in Chikomba District, after he allegedly raped his grandchildren aged 10 and 12.
Police spokesperson for Mashonaland East, Inspector Simon Chazovachiyi, confirmed the incident.
“Sometime in November 2025, the juvenile (12) was baking bread in the kitchen around 7 pm, together with her grandfather, since others had already gone to sleep,” he said.
“The grandfather ordered the girl to lie down and he raped her. After the act, the grandfather threatened to chase the girl from home if she ever revealed the incident to anyone.
“However, the girl disclosed the matter to her grandmother (70), who advised her to report the matter to her teachers at school.”
The following, he said, the grandfather proceeded to indecently assault and rape his other grandchild (10).
“In December 2025, the grandfather was left with his other granddaughter at home,” he said.
“The 10-year-old girl went to her grandfather’s room to give him some food. While inside, the grandfather ordered her to bend down, he then lifted her dress, pulled down her undergarments and caressed her private parts.
“During the same month, he called her to his bedroom where he sodomised and raped her before threatening to beat her if she revealed the matter to anyone.
“The juvenile told her grandmother about her ordeal and she promised to report the matter to the police. The grandfather continued to sodomise and rape the juvenile on different occasions. On January 25, 2026, the grandfather raped her again. The juvenile went on to tell her grandmother about her ordeal and the grandmother advised her to report the matter to her teachers at school.”
He said on Monday this week, the granddaughters revealed the matter to their teacher (50) and a report was made leading to the arrest of the grandfather.
Insp Chazovachiyi implored the public to quickly report rape incidents so that the affected persons can timeously receive medical assistance.
