Grandpa (78) rapes grandchild (8)

A 78-YEAR-OLD Rusape man denied raping his eight-year-old grandchild saying he was no longer sexually active.
It is alleged that the septuagenarian raped the Grade 1 pupil on three different occasions while his wife was away attending a church service.

The grey-haired grandpa appeared before Rusape regional magistrate Mr Livingstone Chipadza and pleaded not guilty to rape charges. Mr Chipadza was expected to sentence the man yesterday.

It was the State case led by Mr James Wirima that the rape was committed between June 12 and 16.

“On June 12 at around 8am, the juvenile’s grandmother and mother left home to attend a three-day church service and left her in the custody of the accused person.

During that night, the accused person ordered the complainant not to sleep in her room, but to join him in his bedroom.

“During that night and the following two days, the accused raped the complainant and ordered her not to tell anyone.

“On June 16, the complainant’s grandmother (wife to the accused) came back from church and discovered that she had difficulties walking. She asked her what the problem was.

“This is when the complainant revealed that she had been raped by the accused person during her absence. A report was made to the police leading to the arrest of the accused person,” said Mr Wirima.
