Granny (72) up for murder

A 72-YEAR-old Beitbridge woman who fatally struck another villager aged 60 with a stone following an undisclosed dispute was yesterday hauled before the courts.
Thina Ndou (72), of Chikwerengwe village in Chief Matibe area in the border town was not asked to plead to charges of contravening a section of the code (murder), when she appeared before Beitbridge magistrate, Mr Carrington Karidzagundi.
She was remanded in custody to 13 January.
In denying her bail, the court noted that due to the gravity of the offence committed, there was no guarantee that if granted bail, Ndou would not abscond to neighbouring South Africa.
The prosecutor, Mr Foster Abeki said on 12 December, Ndou had an undisclosed dispute with the now deceased.
On the following day at around 11pm, she went to the now deceased’s home where she found her sleeping in her bedroom hut and the door was open. The court heard that Ndou picked up a stone which had been placed near the door and struck the woman in the head and she died on the spot.
A report was made to the police leading to Ndou’s arrest.
