AN elderly Nyanga woman is lucky to be alive after being viciously attacked with an axe on the head by her in-law in a bitter dispute over land.
Justice Dzokesai Nyakunhuwa (65), of Village 12B, Nyanhundu, Chief Mutasa, was arraigned before Nyanga magistrate, Mrs Sekai Chiwundura, facing allegations of attempting to kill his brother’s wife, Fungai Madongo (56), by striking her once on the forehead with an axe.
Madongo was not represented, and the State was represented by prosecutor, Mr Cuthbert Bosha, who opposed bail, citing the seriousness of the allegations.
Mrs Chiwundura remanded the matter to November 4.
“On October 21, and during the day, the accused person went to Madongo’s field, where the complainant’s workers were working, trying to stop them from further developing the land.
“The accused person was shouting at the complainant’s employees, thereby drawing the complainant’s attention, and she also went to the scene. The accused person was holding an axe, and he tried to assault the complainant with it, and he struck her once upon her forehead, and she sustained a deep cut. The complainant was medically examined, treated, and discharged,” Bosha told the court.
