Granny overpowers the a�?would-be rapist.a��

A 68 year old brave woman from Fort Rixon in Insiza District gathered courage to overpower a man relatively youthful enough to be her grandchild who attempted to rape her in the bush.

The tough cookie fell prey to a 19 year old Sibongiseni Nkomo (ABOVE) who was presumably hunting for his target at a bushy area that connects the Sweet-home and Shangagwe areas of Fort Rixon, under Chief Jahana.

On 3 June 2016 at around four in the afternoon Nkomo spotted his a�?targeta�� which was in the company of a granddaughter, Nothando Dube.

He allegedly tip-toed to them from behind and forcefully grabbed the granny while tripping her to the ground.

Whilst on the ground, he is reported to have attempted to remove the complainanta��s undergarments but to no avail as the complainant fought back and in the process she over powered him in his bid to gain access to the a�?entrancea��.

After encountering stiff resistance, Nkomo released the complainant and ran away. The complainant reported the matter to her village head Cleopas Gumbi who in turn ordered Chief Jahanaa��s security personnel to look for the accused person.

It is said Nkomoa��s luck ran out when he was arrested on the 6th of June and the victim positively identified him, before he was taken to Fort Rixon police station.

For the offence Nkomo has been arraigned before the court charged with the offence of attempted rape as defined in section 189 of the criminal law Codification and Reform act Chapter 09:23.

He pleaded not guilty.The Bulawayo Magistrate Charity Maphosa remanded him in custody to 16 June.

In his warned and cautioned statement Nkomo denied the allegations.

a�?I do not admit to the charges leveled against me. I only met the complainant who was in the company of her granddaughter whilst on my way to Sweet-Homea�?, he said.
