Grant Muchemwa national hero status, says Mash West

Zanu-PF Mashonaland West Province has recommended national hero status for Special Disability Advisor in the Office of the President and former Health Minister Retired Brigadier-General Dr Felix Muchemwa. Rtd Brig-Gen Muchemwa succumbed to cancer in Egypt on Monday where he was receiving treatment. Provincial chairman Cde Ephraim Chengeta, confirmed the development, adding that they now awaited the decision of the party.

Described by President Mugabe as a hardworking civil servant and scholar, Brig-Gen Muchemwa was born in Mhondoro on April 22, 1945. He held the position of secretary for health in the provincial executive and was at one time a Member of Parliament for Mhondoro.

Mourners are gathered at 39 Gilmour Drive, Hogerty Hill in Borrowdale.

Family spokesperson Dr Luke Muchemwa said the body of Rtd Brig Gen Dr Muchemwa was expected in the country today.
