ZIMBABWE’S junior cricket development continues to gain momentum as Grassroots Cricket prepares to host its fifth consecutive annual coaching clinic.
The 2026 edition will once again bring top-tier Australian expertise to local shores, with two major camps scheduled for August.
The Australian Legends’ Cricket Coaching Camp will run from August 6–8 at Falcon College, followed by the Coaching Camp & Super T20 at Peterhouse from August 31 to September 2.
The programme will also include community outreach coaching sessions in Chitungwiza, Shamva, Goromonzi, Redcliff and Bulawayo, targeting underprivileged young players.
Since its inception four years ago, the initiative has grown into a key fixture on Zimbabwe’s junior cricket calendar, attracting players from across the country and steadily raising the standard of grassroots development.
Grassroots Cricket founder, Tawanda Karasa, said the milestone reflects both the programme’s success and the growing demand for structured youth coaching.
“When we started this journey four years ago, the vision was simple — to give Zimbabwean children access to world-class cricket development at home,” Karasa told Zimpapers Sports Hub from his base in Australia yesterday.
“Today, we are seeing that vision come to life. The growth has been remarkable, and making this an annual event ensures continuity, which is critical for real player development.”
This year’s camps will again feature a strong line-up of Australian cricket figures, including Trevor Chappell, Paul Wilson, Peter Buchanan and David Tallalla.
Their involvement has become a defining feature of the programme, offering young Zimbabwean cricketers rare access to international-level coaching and mentorship.
“These are individuals who have operated at the highest levels of the game,” Karasa said. “Bringing them to Zimbabwe after year is not just about skills — it’s about mindset, discipline and understanding what it takes to succeed globally.”
The Falcon College camp will focus on both foundational and advanced skills for players aged 6 to 18, while the Peterhouse programme will introduce a competitive element through a Super T20 tournament featuring six teams coached by the visiting experts.
