Great expectations

Dr Obert Moses Mpofu

GREAT expectations are often accompanied by great disappointments at times. When one sets out to be ambitious, they should always be honest with themselves as to what can be achieved.

To feel that one can tear down one of the biggest movements through the use of disinformation and expect to achieve success using sordid tactics is certainly punching above one’s weight. Most of us who are familiar with certain issues tend to sit back, relax and watch those who harbour a false sense of wisdom go about making noise about what they have very little knowledge of.

The so-called keyboard warriors have been on a campaign to create a false narrative as to some purported events occurring within the Zanu-PF Party. Zanu-PF remains as solid as ever. Like the instances from before, the results of such will be certain failure. The doomsday predictors face a disappointment in the form of their own failures.

My Party’s name and its leadership are constantly abused by those with a proclivity to sow chaos among our movement. There is no profit in these smear campaigns. Disinformation has become a less effective tool for trying to turn the people against the movement, which they have a deeper connection with.

As a matter of fact, Zanu-PF belongs to the people and they will always dictate how their movement operates. Let those with the slightest sense see through this charade that the enemy has been trying to put on by creating imaginary scenarios that will never see the light of day.

As always, such predicted events, fissures or assumed challenges within the Party never see the light of day. Our leadership is united and is firmly pursuing the people’s agenda, which is the attainment of Vision 2030 through attaining an upper-middle-income society status. This is the focus of our Party and anything else is only a sideshow.

I want to urge our people not to be swayed or have their time wasted by these harbingers of chaos and confusion. There is absolutely no need for our people to waste time or give attention to false narratives that are being spread by our enemies.

This year, like all the years before, we have several programmes, projects and events useful to our people that are lined up. The Party will not stop working tirelessly to achieve its aspirations in spite of the noise that is being spread by those less informed of the operations of our Party.

There is a reason why Zanu-PF has stood the test of time and has survived for so long.  We are ideologically clear and methodical in our approach. We have the ability to deliver for our people and meet their expectations.

There seems to be a rise in terms of mercenaries who are being paid to sabotage our movement, through the use of social media platforms and such efforts will witness epic failure.  We should take action and all the necessary steps to ensure that those who seek to reverse our gains do not succeed. Our people need to be conscientised of some bad apples among us. We are doing very well as a Party under the guidance of our First Secretary and President, Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa.

It is the wins that we are achieving that have drawn malice and attacks from our detractors in the hope that they slow us down. They truly are aware that a divided house cannot stand and are making all manner of efforts to falsify events with the hope that divisions will arise. Unbeknown to them, what binds our movement is far greater than their ability to put a dent on it.

Those expecting the efforts of the ruling Zanu-PF to fail are in for great disappointment. The colossal people’s Party will always adjust and evolve. The whole point of practical politics is power retention.

Zanu-PF will always meet the people’s aspirations for that is the key that will result in people voting Zanu-PF every time. The symbiotic relationship that exists between Zanu-PF and its electorate is what makes the Party retain the throngs of power at every turn. We will forever strive to uplift our people and protect our liberation gains.

Those who have great expectations that Zanu-PF will fail will certainly face failed expectations.

Dr Obert Moses Mpofu is an academic and the Secretary-General of Zanu-PF. He writes in his own capacity.
