Great leaders learn from others

AS a youth, have you ever imagined fronting a massive movement the product of a vision that you would have conceived?

Well, such a responsibility is often considered to be a preserve for elders. But, as a youth, you have the capacity to do so if you allow yourself to spread your wings and fly high towards your dreams.

Do not be afraid to explore your passions. Youths can become leaders in all aspects the Creator intends them to be.

According to the Oxford dictionary, leadership is the action of leading a group of people or an organisation; or the state or position of being a leader.

The importance of being a leader cannot be overemphasised.

If we look around us, we all see the manifestation of God’s work as a leader.

That surely should be an inspiration.

You should always find comfort and inspiration through scriptures like Isaiah 41 vs 10: “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”

The best leaders learn from how others lead.

If favour locates you to be a leader, you should at least emulate the leadership style of one person so that it guides you along the way.

If possible, get a chance to sit down with your role model so that you get to learn more about their leadership style.

It will help you become a leader yourself. The moment you get into leadership, you automatically have other people that understudy you.

Thus, you need to be exemplary all the time. An old adage has it that age ain’t nothing but a number, meaning the potential in you is what counts, nothing else.

Traits

As a leader, you should have the ability to listen and learn when others, especially the wise, are talking.

The ability to be able to mould yourself into a great leader is not a one-day thing.

Leadership is developed over time.

But one can only become an effective leader if they lead a stable life and are grounded in principles. Being a leader takes courage because it requires discipline from within.

Sadly, this is where most youth miss it because they are scared of leaving behind their old bad habits such as drinking, socialising, gaming and partying.

Such habits neither generate income nor mould you into a better being.

If you are finding it difficult to distance yourself from bad habits, try changing the people you hang out with.

Such sacrifices are necessary if you want to excel.

As a leader, always bear in mind that you are not leading yourself but others.

Consider them first and be at their service all the time.

This will guarantee you their total support in both good and bad times.

As youth, you should know that all great people known for good deeds managed to do the things others failed to do. Just make a decision of what type of leader you want to be.

Consistency is the hallmark of any leader. As humans, it is natural to make mistakes. You might fall once or twice but with God and determination in your journey, you are surely going to rise and be a great leader.

Quote of the week: If you are finding it difficult to distance yourself from bad habits, try changing the people you hang out with.
