GREAT SCOTT

FORMER Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay has reportedly been nominated for the 2025 Ballon d’Or.

The 28-year-old has enjoyed a phenomenal debut season with Napoli following his Old Trafford departure.

In 36 appearances he scored 13 goals and provided six assists.

He also played a key role in helping Napoli to their fourth Serie A title.

And now, one year on from his move to Italy, the midfielder is set to be in contention for a Ballon d’Or.

Football journalist Sam C reports that McTominay has been nominated for the sport’s most prestigious individual award.

It is his first Ballon d’Or nomination.

McTominay left Man Utd to join Napoli last August after falling down the pecking order at Old Trafford.

He signed for the Serie A giants in a £25million transfer which enabled the Red Devils to sign Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain.

The midfielder has since become a fan favourite in Naples.

Speaking to talkSPORT last month, he said: “The love and support that they give to the whole team, not just individuals, it’s special.

“It’s amazing. The people are incredibly passionate, and they drive us through every single game.

“They’re probably some of the best fans that I’ve ever played in front of.

“Because every game that we turn up, they’re firing to push the team and to help. It’s incredible.” – Sun
