Greek Easter feast !

– for some people it’s 40 days – Easter Day marks the end of Lent and fasting.
Having observed the Passion of Jesus Christ during the Holy Week, it is now the time to make merry to the heart’s content and celebrate His glorious resurrection!!
They almost invariably do that with a huge barbecue of various meats topped off with the “ovelias” – a whole lamb on a skewer and turning over coal.
(Lamb on coals)
The “ovelias” is eaten with lots of freshly squeezed lemon juice and roast potatoes.
(Grilling chickens and salad platter)
The “ovelias” is the main course preceded by two starters: a variety of salads and some “souvla” – a variety of meats cooked on coal.
(Dessert spread)
Then dessert is a veritable spread with many confectionaries to delight the sweet tooth. No counting of calories at this point!
(Red eggs)
Then there are the red eggs just after the Midnight Resurrection Mass on Saturday and on Easter Sunday Lunch!
Then there is music as Easter is inseparable from dancing! – Adapted from cordelia.typepad.com
