Green Concert on: Organisers

The Green Concert scheduled for today at the 7 Arts Theatre will go ahead after organisers indicated they received a reprieve from the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe yesterday.

The concert is billed to feature international artists Ringo Madlingozi and Winnie Khumalo and Nigerian artist Kunle Ayo.

The NACZ had warned the organisers led by musician and songwriter Dereck Mpofu against holding the show since they were not registered with the NACZ.

However, Mpofu said the show would go ahead following their meeting with NACZ officials yesterday.

“That was a technical glitch which we have since rectified and the show is going on,” Mpofu said.

Mpofu and his colleagues yesterday spent the better part in marathon meetings with officials from the NACZ.

“We are expecting the artists to start arriving in the morning from South Africa and the show is definitely on tomorrow (today),” Mpofu said.

NACZ communications manager Catherine Mtombeni confirmed that Mpofu and his team visited their offices yesterday but could not give the final position saying she was out of office and had not been part of the meetings.
