Green Fuel gives stadium facelift

PREMIERSHIP new boys, Green Fuel FC, have vowed to work on Green Fuel Arena in a bid to stage their home matches in Chisumbanje.

They emerged winners of the ZIFA Eastern Region Division One League unbeaten under the guidance of coach, Lloyd Mutasa.

Green Fuel, who are also known as the Ethanol Boys, are expected to add excitement to the league as they are the first team from Chisumbanje to be promoted into top-flight football.

Mutasa now has a hat-trick of Eastern Region Division One Championships. He previously led Eastern Lions and Kiglon to the top-tier league.

Green Fuel representative, Patient Dube, said everything is in motion to make sure they use their home ground.

“All I can say is that top-flight football is going to be played here in Chisumbanje,” said Dube.

“We are working day and night to develop our stadium. We have already started working on our precast wall, the changing rooms and toilets. All these are under construction.

“A lot of work has already been put into the structure to meet the basic standards of the PSL. If all goes well, we are likely going to miss one or two matches, but we are not expecting that.”

Dube said the club is set to negotiate contracts with players starting today after having verbal pre-contracts with them.

“Players are trooping in today (yesterday). It’s only by tomorrow (today) morning that we can safely say which players have returned and table contracts for them. Most of their contracts expired last year, but we had verbal agreements with them,” Dube said.

Green Fuel have roped in former Highlanders’ assistant coach, Bhekithemba Ndlovu, as one of the assistants to Mutasa. The arrival of Ndlovu saw the club parting ways with Joseph Takaringofa.

“In our technical team, Lloyd Mutasa remains the head coach and we have brought in Bhekithemba Ndlovu as an assistant coach. He replaced Joseph Takaringofa, who we parted with amicably. As for Albert Mabika, we are still devising a way as he doesn’t have the requisite papers to sit on the bench as per PSL requirements.”

Other promoted sides are Hwange FC, Sheasham, and Simba Bhora, who will also be looking to make a mark in the topflight league.
