A 42-YEAR-OLD man has been brought to court facing charges of unlawful entry, malicious damage to property and assaulting a police officer.
Blessing Masango was denied bail when he appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi.
He will be back in court on January 18 for routine remand.
Allegations are that on December 27, the complainant, Clara Nyoni, left her place secured by her brother.
It is further alleged that Masango gained entrance into Nyoni’s house and stole some property.
The following day, Nyoni’s brother noticed that the house had been broken into and informed his sister.
On arrival, she discovered that a curtain, an LG black 1000 watts’ sound bar with a woofer, cooking stick, fan remote controller, sound system remote controller, men’s slopes, small torch and its charger, a pair of sunglasses, playing cards, one terabyte external hard drive and a sunbeam electric iron were missing and reported to the police.
On December 31, detectives received information that Masango was selling some of the stolen property and he was arrested.
On the same day that Masango was being taken to the police, he became violent and head-butted the driver.
Further, Masango damaged the police motor vehicle as he tried to disembark.
Masango vehemently denied the unlawful entry charges, but pleaded guilty to damaging State property and assaulting a police officer.
“I am humbly sorry about what I did. I have anger issues and each time I get angry I hit objects to reduce my anger.
“I got too emotional when I realised that I was being arrested for a crime I didn’t commit. I plead guilty for the assault and damaging of property charges and I am willing to compensate the police officer whom I assaulted,” said Masango.
However, the magistrate denied him bail after he previously stated that he is working on leaving the country this year after completing his studies.
The magistrate also denied him bail because he proved to be a hostile witness.
Essel Zinhiva appeared for the State.
