GREENFUEL coach, Taurai Mangwiro, says his team will head into Sakubva Stadium tomorrow (Saturday) with the aim of securing all the three points when they face unpredictable Bikita Minerals in a potentially thrilling Castle Lager Premiership Eastern Region derby.
As a team in their third PSL season, GreenFuel have brought hope and unparalleled sporting entertainment to the rural community of Chipinge South Constituency.
They made history by becoming the first team in the district to compete in top-flight league football. Consequently, their home matches have consistently drawn capacity crowds.
Despite being well-financed, the Lowveld side has yet to secure maximum points in the ongoing 2025 Castle Lager Premiership season, which enters MatchDay Four this weekend.
Mangwiro acknowledges that the match against Bikita Minerals will be a challenging fixture, but he remains determined to lead his team to victory.
“It is a tricky away match against a team that has accumulated the same number of points as us after the opening three rounds of matches. We will go into the match determined to fight for our first victory of the season against a wounded side, which suffered a narrow defeat in their last outing against Kwekwe, while we had to dig deep to rescue a point from the jaws of defeat at home against Highlanders,” said Mangwiro.
The veteran gaffer will guide his team against the Lithium Boys without any absentees on his player list.
“The good thing for us coming into this encounter is that we are injury-free and have no suspensions. That is a major boost, and we hope to give our fans something to smile about at the end of the match,” said Mangwiro.
GreenFuel’s first match of the 2025 season ended in a 1-1 stalemate against CAPS United at the GreenFuel Arena.
The Ethanol Boys, as GreenFuel is fondly referred to in the Lowveld, then lost their second match of the season 0-1 against Ngezi Platinum at Baobab Stadium.
The Chisumbanje-based outfit subsequently held Highlanders to a 2-2 draw at their GreenFuel Arena, coming from behind.
The results leave GreenFuel with two draws and loss in their opening three matches of the season.
On the other hand, Bikita Minerals are also still searching for their maiden set of maximum points in their 2025 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League campaign.
In the season opener, Bikita Minerals and Chicken Inn played to a goalless draw at Luveve Stadium, with Chicken Inn failing to break down Bikita Minerals’ resolute defence despite having more possession.
Following their goalless draw against Chicken Inn, Bikita Minerals FC played out a thrilling 1-1 draw against newcomers. MWOS FC in a recent Castle Lager Premier Soccer League encounter at Sakubva Stadium.
The match showcased an exciting display of talent and determination from both teams.
Prior to the international break, Bikita Minerals suffered a narrow 0-1 defeat at the hands of Kwekwe United.
Despite their own internal issues, which saw players boycott training for most of that week, Kwekwe United managed to edge Bikita Minerals.
