in the Northern Region Division Two next season.
Grinovich are sitting pretty at top of the league standings with 62 points from 24 matches, having won 19 games, drew five and are undefeated.
Two weeks ago, Grinovich clinched the Zifa Highfield Area Zone League Cup title after dismissing Murray & Roberts 20 in the final at Gwanzura through goals from Taurayi “Dutchman” Murwira and Simbi Kundasi, and they are now looking at clinching a treble by winning the Grinovich Trophy whose knockout rounds are scheduled for this weekend.
Grinovich are under the guidance of former Black Aces and Chapungu United midfielder Moses “Gwejegweje” Chasweka and are owned by local businessman John Yona.
In fact, Grinovich are an engineering company based in the Willowvale Industrial Area of Harare.
The club’s owner Yona believes his team are now ready to play in a more competitive league like the Northern Region Division Two next year.
“When we started this project, we wanted to see if we can build a competitive team for Division Two and from the look of things we have accomplished our goal.
“We are still talking to Zifa about our possible move into Division Two and we are hoping to get a favourable response soon.
“We are looking at playing Premiership football in the next five years and we hope to achieve our goal,” added Yona.
Grinovich coach Chasweka is also convinced that his charges would hold their own in Division Two next year.
“My personal ambition was to help this team qualify to play in Division One next season but if the our sponsor wants us to start by playing in Division Two, then that’s fine but I’m happy that I’ve managed to help this team clinch the Highfield Area Zone League title without tasting defeat this season.
“And it’s much sweeter that we won the title with a game to spare…that’s a great achievement for the youngsters who were always eager to learn from me.
“Sometimes it is a good experience for a coach to go down to these lower leagues or area zones to coach there because there’s a lot of untapped talent there. You will meet a lot of talented youngsters who are always eager to learn and this makes one’s job easier.
“But the most important thing is to nurture them carefully and help to turn them into Premiership material,” Chasweka said.
“I would also like to thank John Yona for backing the team… He’s a dedicated person who has a vision and wants to take his side to greater heights. We really need people like him in our local football,” Chasweka said.
