Children of Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association members yesterday disowned a statement issued by another group claiming to be the offspring of liberation war fighters, which castigated senior Zanu-PF officials that include national political commissar Cde Saviour Kasukuwere, Professor Jonathan Moyo and Cde Patrick Zhuwao.
In a statement, C-ZNLWVA president Cde Munyaradzi Shoko apologised to the senior politicians that were targeted for attack by the group last week.
“The president of C-ZNLWVA on behalf of the entire organisation wishes to apologise to Zanu-PF National Commissar Cde S Kasukuwere, Minister of Youth, Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment Cde Patrick Zhuwao and Higher and Tertiary Education, Science and Technology Development Minister Professor Jonathan Moyo for the bogus public Press conference held by Innocent Mhlanga as reported by NewsDay newspaper of November 12, 2015,” he said.
“We wish to advise the general public that Innocent Mhlanga is not our member and we do not have the post of chairman in our structures, also only the public relations officer is entitled to hold Press conferences if the need arises.”
He added: “C-ZNLWVA is apolitical but supports people chosen by the Government of the day, which is currently led by Cde R.G Mugabe and we do not interfere with anything to do with administration of a political party therefore we respect Cde R.G Mugabe and the party. We are not aware of any party factionalism in Zanu-PF as said by ignorant Innocent Mhlanga.”
Cde Shoko explained the meaning of the slogan “Mwana wese kuna mai”.
“When our organization says ‘Mwana wese kuna mai’ we mean the First Lady Amai Mugabe and we wish her to be the patron of our organisation since her husband is the patron of our sister organisation,” he said.
“We therefore distance ourselves from Innocent Mhlanga and we would like to warn anyone who behaves likewise that the organisation will not hesitate to sue or take legal action to such immoral, unbecoming behaviour.”
Cde Shoko said Cde Christopher Mutsvangwa should explain to the nation why he entertained the bogus group.
Cde Mutsvangwa was not immediately available for a comment last night.
The bogus group allegedly held the Press conference at Cde Mutsvangwa’s offices.
“We therefore demand answers from Cde Christopher Mutsvangwa and his ministry for giving Innocent Mhlanga the platform to hold a Press conference at their offices,” he said.
