AFTER losing out last year to clubmate Zivanai Mhanda, Mushowani Stars’ Evans Katema is in the race to clinch the ZIFA Northern Region Division One Soccer Star of the Year award. The midfielder will battle it out with Edgar Mhungu and Tendai Mutandi to win the first prize of a Toyota Corolla that goes with it. The three were outstanding in the Northern Region Division One this season and were voted the best out of 36 contestants.
Katema missed out last year where he was voted the third best player behind now Dynamos player Mhanda and Gift Phiri of Flame Lilly. Newly-promoted Ngezi Platinum had two finalists who made it on the list. Northern Region chairman Willard Manyengavana said they are happy that they managed to honour the best players of the season and added that it was an encouragement to other payers to do well next season.
“It is good that we managed to maintain our standards and honour the players who did well during the season and we also congratulate Ngezi Platinum for winning promotion into the Premier League.
“As Northern Region we always strive to produce good teams and players who can make the grade everywhere. “To the other finalists who did not make it is not that they did not do well but they should work extra hard to make it next time,” Manyengavana said. Finalists
