The group, which is made up of six members, four girls and two boys, seeks to highlight the daily lives of the people of Plumtree and surrounding areas through the use of drama which is infused with comedy to entertain and educate.
Speaking to Chronicle Entertainment recently, the founder of the group, Sipho Mguni, said the group had been established to correct the ills in today’s society through art especially around Plumtree and its surrounding areas.
“When we look at our society in general one will see a general trend of moral decadence and we decided as a group to tackle these issues through the arts. It is a medium that can have an immediate impact on the lives of people,” he said.
Mguni said the group was targeting people of Plumtree in particular as there were many cases of misdemeanours that include wife snatching and under-age girls having children with older men.
“We have been seeing a rise in the number of illicit activities where people take away the husbands of other women for instance and we decided to highlight such instances through our plays which seek not only to entertain but to teach as well,” he said.
Mguni said the group tried to infuse comedy in some of their acts as that was an effective way to approach serious issues in a light-hearted manner, something the group feels theatre is all about.
“We try to send the message in a light-hearted, but clear manner.”
The group performs at various venues around Plumtree including Dingumuzi Hall on Saturdays.
