CALLING a suspected intruder by his nickname earned a Redwing Mine security guard a thorough bashing recently.
Appearing before Mutare magistrate, Mr Langton Mukwengi, Fungai ‘‘Zoro’’ Chiutare (31) pleaded guilty to assaulting and causing bodily harm on Tusaumwe Chikuni. Prosecuting, Mr Walter Saunyama, told the court that sometime in January, Chikuni was on guard at the mine when he heard noises at around 9pm.
“Armed with a Mossberg shotgun, the complainant teamed up with four other security guards and went to investigate. When he lit his torch, Chikuni identified Chiutare and shouted out his nickname ‘‘Zoro’’.
“Chiutare approached Chikuni and assaulted him with a log before he fell to the ground. Chiutare grabbed Chikuni’s gun and hit him several times on the head and the rest of the body before other guards came to his rescue,” said Mr Saunyama.
Chikuni smashed the gun worth $450 to the ground, damaging it in the process.
Chikuni sustained head injuries and also complained of side pains. Chiutare was arrested by the other guards and taken to the police. Mr Mukwengi was expected to sentence him today.
