Guard in contempt of court

A SECURITY guard escaped jail after being slapped with a suspended sentence for contempt of court.

Willard Jere (62) appeared before Chinhoyi magistrate Batsiranai Madzingira, who sentenced him to a wholly suspended four-month imprisonment on condition he doesn’t commit a similar offence in the next five years.

The State, led by Clever Nyapfani, said on November 19, 2021, Enock Kamushinda, who owns the farm, was granted an eviction order by the High Court against Jere and his family’s occupation of Kashao Farm Subdivision 1 A and B in Mutorashanga.

The court heard that on December 1 last year, Jere was served with an eviction order by the Messenger of Court.

The State proved that he ignored the eviction and returned to occupy another house.

It is the State’s case that on December 14, Kamushinda sent his representatives to the farm and they were shocked to find Jere in occupancy of the farmhouse.

A police report was made and Jere was arrested.
