A female security guard allegedly connived with her colleague to duplicate keys to World Health Organisation stores at Parirenyatwa Hospital offices before stealing property worth US$5 000. Violet Chivanga (32) of number 9 Rino Street New Mabvuku pleaded guilty to stealing four tyres out of the alleged 19 and told the court that she was influenced by her husband.

In her bail application, Chivanga told the court that her husband was the one who sold the stolen property.
“This is my first brush with the law and I only stole four tyres which my husband later sold,” she said. “I don’t know his whereabouts at the moment and I am begging the court to release me on bail.”

Chivanga is facing charges of unlawful entry in aggravated circumstances.
The prosecutor, Mr Sebastian Mutizirwa, opposed granting bail to Chivanga, saying she was a flight risk.

“The accused has partially pleaded guilty to the charges and her accomplice is still on the run,” he said. “Some of the stolen property was recovered from the accused.”
Harare magistrate Mr Milton Serima denied Chivanga bail and remanded her to October 9.

Mr Mutizirwa alleged that between June 20 and July 5 this year, Chivanga and her accomplice Gloria Mudimu, who is still at large, were guarding World Health Organisation stores at Parirenyatwa Hospital offices.

It is alleged that the pair duplicated keys to the storeroom before stealing 19 motor vehicle tyres, a 40-inch Sony Bravia television set and a DSTv decoder and the pair was seen loading the loot in a truck.

Some of the sold property was recovered.
