FORMER Highlanders Football Club Chief Executive Officer Brian Busani Moyo was today found guilty of defrauding the club of US$2 000 in a dodgy player transfer deal.
Moyo appeared before Bulawayo Provincial Magistrate Richard Ramaboea this afternoon, where he was convicted on fraud charges stemming from a shady transaction involving two players from Bulawayo Chiefs — striker Never Rauzhi and midfielder Malvern Hativagoni.
Despite the guilty verdict, Moyo’s bail was not revoked. He was remanded out of custody and will return to court tomorrow for sentencing.
Moyo was represented by lawyers Victor Kucherera and Thamani Ncube of Wallace Law Chambers.
The scam unfolded late last year when Highlanders moved to sign Rauzhi and secure Hativagoni on loan. Initially, negotiations pegged Rauzhi’s transfer at US$25 000 and Hativagoni’s loan at US$15 000. Talks later collapsed, but Bulawayo Chiefs administrator Mandigora — who has since pleaded guilty and been sentenced — revived the deal.
The clubs finally settled on US$13 000 for Rauzhi and US$1 000 for Hativagoni. However, Mandigora told the court a different tale, admitting he teamed up with Moyo to dupe Bosso.
Highlanders were told the deal cost US$23 000, while Chiefs were informed it was worth US$18 000. The US$5 000 difference was pocketed by the two, with Mandigora taking US$3 000 and Moyo walking away with US$2 000.
Tomorrow’s sentencing will determine Moyo’s fate — and whether the once powerful Bosso boss will trade his suit for prison garb.
