Gula-Ndebele’s mother buried

Gula-Ndebele is a retired army colonel who was among the country’s military intelligence supremos in the 1980s.

 

After independence, Gula-Ndebele, who is also a former chairman of the Electoral Supervisory Commission practised as a lawyer and established the law firm Gula-Ndebele and Partners Legal Practitioners.

His mother died at her Selborne Park home in Bulawayo at the age of 85.

Scores of relatives, friends and Government officials gathered at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Selborne Park where a church service was held for Mrs Ndebele.

The family spokesperson, who is also Gula-Ndebele’s uncle and former Speaker of Parliament, Mr Cyril Ndebele said Mrs Ndebele died after a long illness.

He described her as a wonderful woman who was a pillar of strength for the Ndebele family.

“Mrs Ndebele was ill for a long time and later died at the age of 85. Her death has left a void that will be difficult to fill in the family. She was an amazing daughter-in-law who was always there for her children and the whole family.

“She was also a hard working woman who used her own hands to make sure that the children are taken to school, and always wanted the best for her children,” said Mr Ndebele.

The Minister of Water Resources and Management Samuel Sipepa Nkomo expressed his condolences to the Ndebele family, saying mothers were a special gift from God.

“Losing a mother is not an easy experience because mothers are a special gift from God. You feel a big difference in your life no matter how old you are. I would like to express my sincere condolences to the Ndebele and Ndlovu families. May her soul rest in eternal peace,” said Minister Sipepa Nkomo.

Mrs Ndebele was born and educated at Solusi. She met her late husband Mr Fanuel Ndebele when she was a teacher in the same area.

She later left the teaching profession and moved to their family farm in Shurugwi where she became a full-time farmer.

Four children and 10 grandchildren survive her.
