Gumbo mourns Pauline

Pauline was a pathfinder, leading women football from being a novelty to being a part of everyday sporting life in Zimbabwe.
During her time as secretary general, and working with other pioneers like Susan Chibizhe, Eusebia Nleya and the late Faith Mpaso, she took on numerous challenges and preconceptions to help young women follow their dreams.

The Mighty Warriors nickname came up during these years, and the team went to the Africa Nations Cup twice.
Pauline was a true leader, fearless and dedicated. She was a football lover through and through, and believed in professionalism of the game she loved. Some of her plans never came to pass, but many did and we are always grateful for the role she played in bringing women football to the centre of the sporting stage.

The Mighty Warriors team she helped set up still lives today, with our national coach, Rose Mugadza a product and former captain of that inspirational team
We remember her with joy. We recall her exploits with pride and we celebrate her achievement with respect and honour.

May she rest in peace, and may the Matute family find comfort at this time.
She was a true hero of this beautiful game.
