MASKED gunmen armed with rifles and a pistol stormed a petrol garage in a brazen late-night robbery, making off with US$1 000 and R7 000 – as police sound the alarm over a spike in fuel station hold-ups.
The terrifying raid unfolded at Blaze Petroleum on Siyephambili Drive, Kelvin West, on 23 March at around 8:30 PM, when three attackers emerged from a nearby maize field, fired a warning shot, and forced terrified attendants to hand over cash.
The thugs, all wearing face masks, rounded up staff, marched them to the cash office, and emptied an unlocked metal box before ordering workers to lie on the ground as they fled.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Msebele Nomalanga warned fuel stations to stop keeping large sums on-site, urging immediate bank deposits and locked safes. “This surge in armed robberies is alarming – don’t make yourselves easy targets,” she said.
No arrests have been made, but cops are hunting the gang.
