Gunners to inject new blood

which parted ways with 14 players during the mid-season transfer window last year, suffered another setback when captain Qadr Amini, Ali Sadiki, Ishamel Lawe, Michelle Katsvairo and goalkeeper George Chigova left for greener pastures in the Premiership during the off-season break.
But coach George Madira yesterday said Chando Kupisa, known for their passion for youth, have turned to their development programme to beef up their stocks.
Madira, who has a long working relationship with Gunners mainly as an assistant coach, has been given the task to prepare the side this year following the recent fallout between Moses Chunga and the management.
However, life has to go on at Lafarge and Madira said the 2009 Premiership champions will promote not less than six players from their juniors this season.
“Our preparations are going on well,” said Madira.
“We have brought in William Manondo from FC Platinum and Blessing Sande from Hwange.
“But most of our new players are coming from our juniors.
“We are going to promote about six from the Under-20 side including the goalkeeper to deputise Prosper Chigumba.
“The youngsters are really good and I can only promise fireworks,” said Madira.
Gunners are aiming for a top five place in the league this year despite losing some of their key players who left during the off-season break.
“If you look in the past three years we have been finishing up there. We won the championship in our second year in the Premiership (2009) and since then we have not missed a top five finish.
“So the objective is still the same, to maintain the top five or better,” said Madira.
