Gunners trio AWOL

with undisclosed South African clubs.
According to sources, the trio of experienced defender David Sengu, midfielder Nathan Ziwini and youth international goalkeeper George Chigova left the country on Tuesday without informing their employers.
The Gunners management yesterday expressed dismay at the development and have since launched investigations into the players’ whereabouts after missing training for two days.
Gunners’ owner Cuthbert Chitima said he was in the dark about the players’ movements since no club or agent had approached the club for their services.
“We are surprised to hear that some players have gone for trials without our knowledge because no agent or club has come to us formally to talk about it.
“They haven’t reported for duty since we resumed training on Wednesday and it’s now two days without a word from them.
“I am trying to contact their families to hear more about it because one of the players, George, actually belongs to Aces Youth Academy.
“I have talked to Aces and they are not aware of that and now we begin to wonder what kind of agent is arranging the trials.
“It’s surprising because as a club we will not stand in any player’s way if he gets an opportunity outside the country.
“We actually encourage that and I wouldn’t mind if the bulk of the team is called for trials,” said Chitima.
The trio, who form the core of coach Darlington Dodo’s team, last reported for duty on Monday when Gunners were involved in a 0-0 draw against Shabanie Mine.
Sengu has been very instrumental in central defence after filling the void left by the departure of Daniel Veremu while Chigova quickly fit into Tafadzwa Dube’s shoes after the former players were raided by cash rich FC Platinum at the beginning of the season.
But there has been a growing interest in Zimbabwean talents from South Africa of late and several players, including two Gunners players Qadr Amini and Ashley Rambanapasi, had trial stints in the last two weeks.
Gunners, who had a poor start this season, will face Shooting Stars at Sakubva in Mutare in a midweek fixture next week after the Premier Soccer League cancelled all weekend games to avoid counter-attraction with the Warriors’ Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Mali.
