Gwanda Rural District Council has purchased 27 motorbikes for councillors, a backhoe loader, and a tipper truck, which are set to be commissioned today.

The equipment, valued at US$173 075, will be commissioned by the Minister of Local Government and Public Works, Daniel Garwe, who is represented by the Deputy Minister responsible for local authorities and traditional leadership, Cde Albert Mavunga.

Speaking during a briefing, Gwanda Rural District Council Chief Executive Officer Mr Ranganai Sibanda said the equipment will help improve service delivery and enhance the council’s visibility in the community.

“As a council, we realised that there is a gap in terms of equipment, which is making it difficult for us to fulfil our obligations when it comes to service delivery. The tipper truck and backhoe loader will help us fulfil our mandate on infrastructure development. We are dedicated to improving the standards of living for community members,” he said.

“There is also a concern regarding the mobility of our councillors, as some have to walk over 20 kilometres to reach the farthest areas. The motorbikes will improve the visibility of the council in the community and enhance service delivery. As a council, we used council revenue to purchase this equipment,” Mr Sibanda added.

The commissioning of the equipment marks a significant step towards addressing logistical challenges and improving the council’s capacity to deliver essential services to the community.
